Biography
Thomas Alva Edison was born in 1847 at the 11th February in the USA. He lived in Milan in the State Ohio. Edison only went a few months to a regular school. After this time he was educated by his Parents. When he was seven he and his family moved to Port Huron in Michigan. There he worked in a train an sold news papers. From 1863 to 1868 Edison worked in a telegraphic office in Indianapolis, Cincinnati, Memphis, Louisville and Boston. In 1868 he made his first Invention: the electrical counter of votes for assemblies. Edison married his first wife Mary Stilwell in 1871 and he worked at the first typewriter. Later Edison invented the phonograph and so he could hear as the first person his own voice. 1890 Edison founded the "Edison General Electric" company. Till his dead he made a whole lot of other inventions like the cinematograph, a electric safety mechanism and measuring instruments. Thomas Alva Edison died in West Orange at 18th October in 1931.
The electric light bulb
In 1878 Edison had the idea to bring electric light in all households. Before the invention of the electric light bulb there were only dangerous gas lamps. After a lot of experiments he finally found a method to let the bulb burn for a longer time. Before Edison worked on the this there already was an electric light bulb, but it just could burn for a few seconds. Edison improved the light bulb so that it could be used in lots of households.
