General information:
The nickname of NJ is ''The Garden State'' but there is no definitive explanation for this nickname.
The Capitol is Trenton and the biggest city is Newark.
New Jersey is 22.608 sqkm big and there live 8,6 Mio. People.
Geography:
NJ is in the east of the USA and the fourth smallest state of the USA.
It belong to the Middelatlantic states. The neighbours are: New York in the north, the Atlantic in the east, Daleware Bay in the south, Daleware and Pannsylvania in the west.
New Jersey split in four regions from south to north. (Karte zeigen) Here is the Atlantic coast, here the Piedmont Plateau, here the New Jersey Highlands and here the Great Appalachin.
History:
The first people, whose lived in NJ were the Daleware Indians. The European called them so because they lived in Daleware and New Jersey. The Daleware Indians lived at least 10.000 years ago in small groups in New Jersey. The men hunted and the women worked in the garden.
Around 1524 came the first European, it was Giovanni de Verrazano. He sailed along the coast and anchored off Sandy Hook.
The colonial history started after Henry Hudson sailed through Newark Bay in 1609. Hudson was British but he worked for the Netherlands. That's why New Jersey called ''New Netherland''.
But in 1664 The British took control of the land, added to their colonies and gave New Jersey the name after the Island of Jersey.
In 1776 the people of New Jersey come into being to the anti-British feelings. New Jersey declared itself an independence state and joined the colonial. It beloged to the 13th colonies which revolt againt the British mastery. The 13 colonies won and became The Independence. New Jersey entry to the USA on the 18th December 1787, it was the 3rd State.
Sights:
In New Jersey are many sights. The Atlantic coast is very famous for New Jersey, it's 200km long and have the best seaside resorts. For exsample: Ocean City, Avalon and Asbury Park. The Asbury Park is famous for his night live. And the very pretty beaches: Cap May, Ocean, Atlantic and Monmouth.
Then there is Atlantic City, which have the nickname: ''Las Vegas at the east coast''. There are about 10 Casinos and the Boardway. The Boardway is about 10km long. The Atlantic City Art Center and Historic Museum is in Atlantic City, too. At the Museum you can read, why Atlantic City became the second Las Vegas.
Famous People:
You all know Tom Cruise, he is a famous Actor. And you know Steven Spielberg, he is a very good Movie Director and Producer. His films are very good and famous.
But I think there are two more famous persons. Grover Cleveland and Woodrow Wilson. This two man was the US Presidents.
Gorge Cleveland lived from 1837-1908 and was from 1881-1885 US President and from 1893-1897.
Woodrow Wilson lived from 1856-1930 and was US President from 1913-1921.

The 2 women are for freedom and goddess of grain in New Jersey.
The shield is for agriculture tradition of New Jersey.
And the scroll is for the State's Motto: ''Liberty and Prosperity''.
