The Irish had, or had 3 Gods
1. Fomori: Ocean demons
2. Tuatha de Dannan: noble gods
3. Meliesiern: More believed than the church
· Fomoris: 1st gods - 2 battles against the new gods Tuatha de Dannan. In the 2nd battle they lost.
· Tuatha de Dannan: Where children from the mother of all gods. And were gods for more than 3000 years.
· Some important gods:
§ Dana: Mother of the gods
§ Aine: Stands for good crop
§ Angus: god of love
§ Brigit: protector of poor people
§ Oagda: god of death
§ Lugh: god of light & war
§ Manana: god of water
§ Nauada: ?father of the Irish royal?
And now the Creatures
Ø Fairies: Oberan (King) & Titania (Queen) ;
o 5 diffrent kinds of fairies:
§ No named: Famous persons and fallen kings: some fairys are now famous. Like Tinkerbell(Friend of Peter Pan) or the Toothfairy
§ Will'o'Whisp: German Irrlichter; play jokes on humans; don't like humans and when they can do sth. Bad to them, they do it.
§ Brownies: Good fairies, that can't lie. They like humans and help them when ever they can. But they expect a reward. If they don't get a reward, they turn into the nasty Boggarts.
§ Boggarts: The brownies without reward: They destruct everything. Their favourite food is wood and they try to smother the younger. The only way, to get him out of your home is, to ask him, to leave as long as, the hollies are green. It will take him 2 seasons, to remember, that the trees are always green. But he can't go back.
§ Banshees: They Fairies of death, who are only women. Banshees scream very loud when someone is dieing. When the person is ready for the death, the Banshee comes and finally kills him. But they only warn the best Irish families with Celtic lineages, whose names start with 'Mc', or 'O'when the death is coming.
Ø Pixies: Mostly friendly, but like to play tricks, too. Sometimes they help, but they can run very long and fast, but after it, they fall in a deep sleep.
Ø Leprechauns: There are no females. It's the best known creature and when you think of some Irish fables, you sure think about the Leprechauns, too. They perhaps look poor, expect of their shoes, but they are very rich and stingy shoemaker. Leprechauns hide their gold in a pot, which you can get, when you see a leprechaun, catch it and force him to give you his gold. But just, when you look away, or squint, he'll disappear forever. But, when you find his home, that behind a rainbow is, you get 3 wishes. They don't like humans and so they play very intelligent jokes and tricks on them.
Ø Gnomes: Gnome Facts:
§ Males indulge in pipe-smoking
§ Males think of marriage, when they are 200 years old
§ Greetings, farewells and goodnights are expressed by rubbing noses.
§ Gnomes are 7 times as strong as a man.
§ Urine can be contained for a whole day
§ Life-span is around 400 years.
§ Fingertips as sensitive as those of a blind person.
§ Capable of smelling 19 times better than human.
§ ESP...(nonverbal communication over great distances)
§ Weather forecasting
§ Born as twins under a tree (spend their live under it)
§ Gnomes love to dance and fine occasions for celebrating.
