110 years ago, Green Lake was the largest lake in Texas. Each year was a town picnic on which prizes were awarded. Katherine Barlow won every year a prize for her spiced peaches. Katherine Barlow was the town's only schoolteacher, who taught in an old one-room schoolhouse. Her classes were always full of young men, who were not interested in the education they were given but in the pretty Kate Barlow. One of the men was Charles Walker, he always wanted to go out with Kate, but she turned him down and so he got very angry because he didn't get what he wanted.
When the people of the town of Green Lake got sick, they went to the doctor of the town. But they also went to Sam, the onion man, because he told them that onions are good for your health. Sam also brought Kate Barlow onions, one day they made a deal. Sam fixes the leaky roof of the schoolhouse in exchange for Kate's spiced peaches. But by the end of the semester, Sam repaired the whole schoolhouse. During Sam was working at the schoolhouse, Kate Barlow fell in love with him. When the townspeople heard about their love, they avoided Kate Barlow and nobody came to her lessons, in the evening. A reason for their behavior was, that Sam was black (it was forbidden for Blacks to kiss the White).
One day, the sheriff wanted to kiss Kate Barlow, because she also kissed Sam, the black man, but she refused and told him, that under the eyes of god everyone's equal. So the sheriff didn't change his intention and wanted to hang Sam. Kate told Sam about the sheriff's intention and they tried to flee with Sam's motorized boat. When Charles Walker smashed into their boat, they had no chance to escape anymore. Sam was shot and killed in the water. Kate Barlow was rescued against her wishes. Three days after Sam's dead, Kate Barlow shot the sheriff and gave him a kiss on his dead lips. For the next twenty years, Katherine Barlow was the most wanted person in all the west of Texas.
Twenty years later, Kate Barlow returned to Green Lake (she got crazy after Sam's death). In the left town, she met Linda and Charles Walker who wanted to know, where Kate hid the treasure but Kate didn't tell them. Linda Walker threatened Kate to kill her, when she won't tell her where the treasure is. The only answer of Kate was, that she was wishing she was dead for the last twenty years. Then she died laughing by the bit of a yellow-spotted-lizard.
