- Stanley Yelnats -
Stanley Yelnats is the main character of "Holes". He has no friends in the beginning of the story because he is overweigh, everybody tease him because of his weight even the teachers don't treat him like the other pupils.
Stanley has no brothers and sisters. His father is an inventor so the family hasn't so much money. Despite this fact, Stanley loves his family and wants to help them as much as he can. On the Yelnats family is a curse because Stanley's great-great-grandfather has stolen a pig from an old gypsy lady.
Stanley feels misunderstood and sad because of the bullying at school (p.21, l.13-21). Stanley is a sensitive person, also very kind and fair (for example when he found the lipstick tube and gave it to X-Ray). But he's ordered around by X-Ray so you can say that it's easy to influence him (X-Ray told him to give him anything what he finds and Stanley does that without saying anything against that!). He always remains optimistic apart from the worse things that happen to him. Stanley has to go to Camp Green Lake, because he is accused to have stolen the sneakers of Clyde Livingston. But in reality, he's innocent but nobody really believes him. At the camp he makes for the first time of his life friends who accept him as he is. He is very proud on this, because he's finally accepted by others.
