I want to tell you something about Belfast. It\'s the capital of Northern Ireland and the second biggest city in Ireland. Belfast is situated at the mouth of the Lagan river in Belfast Lough. The population is about 277.000 inhabitants and the area is about 155 squarekilometres. Belfast is a part of the province of Ulster.
Belfast is an important city, there\'s a university called Queens University and two airports. A big problem if the conflict between Protestants and Catholics. In the past they threw petrol bombs and placed bombs in bulidings but now it\'s a bit more peaceful because of the IRA (Irish Republican Army) stopped their campain for a united Ireland. The government bulit a wall called Peaceline between a Catholic and a Protestant area , where a lot of violent conflicts happened. Today it reminds one of the problems in the past. But the conflicts between Protestants and Catholics is not my topic. I want to go on with something else about Belfast: The Titanic.
The city centre is a pedestrian zone with a lot of banks, shops, restaurants and cafes. Belfast is a great city to shop in. You also can see a lot of interesting things, for example; the Belfast City Hall and the Belfast Castle a small distance outside of Belfast and the Grand Opera House and the Crown bar . Inside you can sit at the bar or in cubicles, also called snugs. You can see them in this picture. And the Stormont
There are famous people who were born in Belfast too, for example:
- Gary Moore, a blues guitarist
-Van Morrison, a rock musician
-Steven Rea, a Hollywood actor who acted in \"Interview with a vampire\"
-Alex Higgins, a famous snooker-player
-James Galway, a flute-player
-Liam Neeson, a Hollywood actor also, who acted in \"Schindler\'s List\"
-George Best, a football player who died last week.
I hope you enjoyed my presentation.
